Developing the Next Generation of Leaders

Mentorship. New graduates say they need it; industry experts say you need to provide it. But how exactly do you turn a fledgling doctor or team member into a practice leader? Denise L. Tumblin, CPA, shares key
findings from Benchmarks 2010: A Study of Well-Managed Practices that help answer this question. You’ll walk through the steps needed to develop a leadership and business mentorship program, and you’ll receive valuable take-home tools you can use to create a mentorship program in your own practice.
You’ll learn:
  • How to identify leadership talents and competencies in current and future employees.
  • Your team’s current level of job satisfaction and the factors that contribute the most to job satisfaction and dissatisfaction.
  • What you can do to enhance your staff’s contributions to the practice.
  • How to slow the revolving door of turnover.
  • The latest on compensation and benefits for owners, associates, practice managers, and staff members.
  • How to conduct strategic planning meetings.

Think Like A Consultant About Your Own Practice

In this two-day, highly interactive workshop you’ll have hands-on learning opportunities and be coached by two top veterinary practice management experts — Dennis M. McCurnin, DVM, MS, DACVS, and Karen Gavzer, MBA, CVPM. You’ll learn to think like a practice management consultant. Using in-depth information from a real veterinary practice, you’ll evaluate the hospital’s finances, marketing strategies, leadership potential, and policies, and then create a plan to diagnose and treat the business. The method you learn will help you identify issues in your own practice and make smart, informed choices to improve it.

This workshop will put you in small groups where you work with your peers to analyze and make recommendations for the practice. In addition, you’ll take home ideas to help you understand the rules of pricing, consumer psychology, and value proposition.
